Jamaca Mitchell’s practice focuses on all aspects of compliance matters related to the firm’s employee benefit fund clients, including pension funds and health and welfare funds.
Before joining Slevin and Hart, P.C., Mr. Mitchell worked at a consulting firm for three years where he provided consulting services to clients regarding compliance matters related to group health plans and served as a subject matter expert on the No Surprises Act and Transparency in Coverage Rule. Mr. Mitchell also has spoken at conferences held by the American Bar Association and International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans on employee benefit issues such as the No Surprises Act, Transparency in Coverage Rule, and providing employee benefits from a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens.
Mr. Mitchell’s experience also includes working at the Centers for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO), a component of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, for nine years. While at CCIIO, Mr. Mitchell primarily worked on regulatory and policy issues related to implementing and enforcing the provisions of the ACA and was involved in drafting the Transparency in Coverage Rule.
Since leaving school Mr. Mitchell served in a variety of volunteer capacities, including serving as the Chief Justice (President) of the Sigma Delta Tau Legal Fraternity, Deputy Director of Region XII of National Bar Association, and a volunteer attorney with the United States Department of Justice Pro Bono Program.
Mr. Mitchell is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Illinois, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Mitchell received his law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. During law school, Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Black Law Student Association’s mock trial team. Mr. Mitchell also graduated from DePaul University with a B.S. in Business Management.
