Christina B. Porras
Christina Porras’ practice focuses on all aspects of compliance related to the firm’s employee benefit fund clients. Ms. Porras has significant experience providing advice related to Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor compliance programs and correction procedures. She helps fund clients manage day to day compliance issues such as overpayment collections, missing and unresponsive participants, mistaken contribution scenarios, and forfeitures. She also advises on pension eligibility and health coverage issues and assists clients with questions related to the suspension of pension benefits, benefit determination appeals and claims, credited service determinations, and welfare plan design issues. Ms. Porras has experience drafting and amending plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and summary of material modifications, and works with service providers to facilitate and review ERISA reporting and disclosure documents and filings, including Forms 5500 and 990, actuarial valuation reports, and nondiscrimination testing required for pension plan compliance.
Before joining Slevin and Hart, P.C., Ms. Porras worked in-house for a non-profit organization that administered multiemployer pension and health benefit plans, and litigated ERISA benefit cases.
Ms. Porras received her J.D. from Catholic University, where she was a Nell Hennessy Employee Benefit Scholar recipient and a recipient of The Dean’s Award. In addition, Ms. Porras received a Master of Laws in Taxation, and a Certificate in Employee Benefits from Georgetown University Law Center.
Ms. Porras is licensed in the District of Columbia and Virginia. She is admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the Fourth Circuit.
