Karen J. WardPrincipalKaren Ward's practice covers a broad range of subjects related to employee benefit plan design and implementation. Specifically, she handles tax qualification, health plan design and related issues, plan administration, claims and appeals processing, domestic relations, and fiduciary responsibility. She has extensive experience advising clients regarding plan mergers, negotiating provider and investment contracts, drafting plan documents and policies, and counseling clients to ensure compliance with ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code. Ms. Ward is an experienced litigator and appellate advocate. Her accomplishments include six years as an attorney with the Appellate Court Branch of the National Labor Relations Board, where she represented NLRB in United States Courts of Appeal and United States District Courts. Later, and before joining Slevin & Hart, P.C., Ms. Ward worked in private practice, concentrating in labor and employee benefit matters. Ms. Ward is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where she was awarded the Beale Prize for legal writing. She received a bachelor's degree from Northeastern Illinois University. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois (inactive). She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, as well as the United States Courts of Appeal for the District of Columbia and the Fourth Circuit. |
